VALENTINO ROSSI'S crew chief Jerry Burgess will follow the Italian to Ducati - that's the view of outspoken former 500cc World Champion Wayne Gardner. The 1987 champ says, via his personal website, that Burgess once confided in him that he would stay with Rossi until the end of his career. And it's a pledge Gardner believes his fellow Australian will honour. Moreover, Gardner believes Burgess is playing a tactical game. If he announces he's going with Rossi then Yamaha will immediately cut him out of any future development work on the 2011 machines, in the same way Rossi was denied the latest Yamaha equipment at Brno post-race testing earlier this week. 'I reckon he hasn't told Yamaha what he's doing and I reckon this is a very smart move,' Gardner states on his website. No stranger to Japanese custom, Gardner believes Yamaha will be putting pressure on Burgess to sign for next year: 'The Japanese will be very sceptical. and will be pressuring him to sign as soon as possible.' Our MotoGP man reckons Gardner's synopsis is spot-on: keep quiet, learn as much as you can about future developments and then do one at the eleventh hour.

Moto2: Toni Elias takes Indy win
Race results - Indianapolis:

Spent quite a few laps up with the front pack.
Toni Elias took victory in a restarted Moto2 race at Indianapolis on Sunday.
The sick title leader shot from sixth to first at the second start and the Gresini Moriwaki rider, plus Aspar Suter's Julian Simon and Marc VDS Suter's Scott Redding soon pulled away from the field.
Simon took the lead from fellow Spaniard Elias through turn one on lap five, but the trio of grand prix winners remained locked together for most of the race - Elias ignoring his reduced physical state to pull an impressive outside pass to regain the lead through turn one with six laps to go.
Redding lost pace during the closing laps, but Elias was unable to shake-off Simon, whose red bike - frequently seen backing into corners - was rarely more than a few tenths behind.
And that's ultimately where Simon remained, having been unable to launch the pass needed to secure his first Moto2 win, while Elias took another step towards the inaugural title with his fifth victory of the year.
Redding was more than happy with his first Moto2 rostrum, while second in the championship Andrea Iannone was just under two seconds behind Redding in fourth.
The Speed Up rider is now 67 points behind former MotoGP rider Elias in the standings.
JiR's Simone Corsi charged from 39th on the restart grid to fifth, with Sergio Gadea sixth, Thomas Luthi Seventh and Gabor Talmacsi eighth.
Home wild-card Jason DiSalvo claimed a commendable ninth on his Moto2 debut, with a GP Tech-run FTR.
The former Triumph WSS rider crossed the line with his fist in the air just a few hundredths clear of Anthony West and Dominique Aergerter.
The initial race start had been red flagged on the opening lap after two separate multi-bike pile-ups at turn two.
Tech 3's Raffaele de Rosa and American Honda's Roger Lee Hayden were then told they would not be allowed to restart, since they did not return to pit lane within the allocated time limit.
It's the same rule that stopped Alvaro Bautista and Aleix Espargaro restarting the German MotoGP race.
American Honda team manager Kevin Schwantz and Tech 3's Herve Poncharal were soon seen in separate conversations with officials - Schwantz calmly explaining that Hayden had actually got back in time but returned via a short cut.
Just as Schwantz and Poncharal seemed to accept that their riders were out, a subsequent announcement declared that all riders would be allowed to restart!
de Rosa failed to finish, but Hayden salvaged 17th from his second chance. The third American in the field, Moto2 regular Kenny Noyes, was 19th.

Provisional 2011 MotoGP calendar announced
First look at 2011 MotoGP race dates A provisional version of the 2011 MotoGP World Championship calendar has been released by the FIM.
The calendar contains the same 18 rounds as in 2010, meaning that the new Aragon circuit - originally a one-year stand-in for the ditched Hungarian round - has been retained.
The racing season will start three-weeks earlier than this year, with the traditional Qatar night race, but end at almost exactly the same time in Valencia.
Estoril has been moved from the penultimate round in 2010, to round four in 2011, while the Laguna Seca event will once again be for MotoGP only.

Stoner set to equal Rainey on all time win list
Casey Stoner now just one win behind MotoGP legend Wayne Rainey. Casey Stoner's third win of the year at the recent Australian Grand Prix was also his 23rd MotoGP victory.
That moves him above three multi-world champions in the following list of riders with most wins in the premier-class.
Stoner is now just one win behind three-time world champion Wayne Rainey, but still has some way to go to reach the 54 wins of Mick Doohan - the most successful Australian rider of all-time.
However it should be noted, that having just celebrated his 25th birthday, Stoner is still younger than both Doohan and Rainey were at the time of their first grand prix win.
Stoner has taken all his wins since joining Ducati in 2007, the year he won the world championship. Stoner will move to Honda next year.

Stoner stars as Valencia test concludes, Rossi 15th Casey Stoner fastest on second and final day of Valencia test; Jorge Lorenzo's day one time unbeaten; Valentino Rossi just 15th at end of Ducati debut... Casey Stoner completed a dream debut for Honda by snatching the top spot in the closing stages of the Valencia MotoGP test, the last official track action of 2010.
Second on his RC212V debut on Tuesday, the Australian - a Ducati rider for the past four years - ran third behind Factory Yamaha riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben spies for much of day two, then vaulted ahead in the final hour with a 1min 32.066sec.
Stoner, whose 23 Ducati race wins is more than any other rider has achieved in the 800cc era, improved by 0.709sec on Wednesday and could scarcely have hoped for a better debut - especially having outpaced new team-mates and established Repsol Honda riders Dani Pedrosa (injured) and Andrea Dovizioso almost from his first lap on the bike.
"There's not much I'm not happy with!” Stoner told MotoGP.com at the conclusion of the Test. “Of course there is still a long way to go for us with the bike but we've come away with a reasonable base setting.
"We still have to get the general feeling of the bike a bit better in the middle of the corner turning, but that's just a case of getting more time on the bike and a better balance for me as I have a different style to most riders.
"At this moment, with the set-up we currently have, we have been very happy with the feedback the bike's been giving us and the way everyone's been working.”
New world champion Lorenzo, fastest by 0.763sec over Stoner on day one, finished day two just 0.113sec behind in second position. However the Spaniard, running the #1 plate for the first time, was fractionally quickest on combined times thanks to his 1min 32.012sec day one effort.
Spies, promoted to the factory squad in place of departing seven time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi, will be pleased to have closed significantly on Lorenzo during day two. 0.866sec behind Lorenzo at the end of day one, the American was only 0.143sec adrift after day two.
Fellow rookie Marco Simoncelli was just 0.384sec from Stoner in fourth place, despite some falls, making the San Carlo Honda Gresini rider the second fastest RCV present. Pedrosa, nursing a healing collarbone and trying new parts for 2011, was a few tenths slower in fifth.
Nicky Hayden was the top Ducati rider in sixth (+0.517sec) position, as the factory continues to evaluate its 'big bang' and 'screamer' engine options for 2011, with lone Suzuki rider Alvaro Bautista an impressive seventh (+0.672sec) on the GSV-R.
Not many would have predicted that Randy de Puniet would outpace Rossi by the end of their first Ducati test, but that's just what the new Pramac rider did with eighth position (+0.770sec).
Dovizioso and new Gresini rider Hiroshi Aoyama completed the Wednesday top ten.
Rossi had been tenth fastest on day one (+1.870sec), but was only 15th out of the 17 riders on day two. As well as learning the Desmosedici after seven years at Yamaha, the Italian superstar had different types of engine specifications to try, although he mainly used the 'big bang'.
The Doctor lapped just 0.121sec faster than on Tuesday and will now take a few days off being undergoing surgery for his injured shoulder.
Of the two 2011 rookies, Cal Crutchlow and Karel Abraham, it was ex-World Superbike rider Crutchlow who finished higher on both days.
The Englishman, taking part in his second MotoGP test but first with the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team, was 14th and 13th, having improved by 0.831sec on the second day.
Crutchlow, the 2009 WSS champion, left Valencia 1.417sec behind Stoner and only 0.158sec behind the best time by veteran team-mate Colin Edwards.
Valencia Moto2 winner Abraham, who has the added disadvantage of riding for a team new to MotoGP, had been 17th and last on day one, but moved ahead of Moto2 champion Toni Elias by finding 1.283sec on Wednesday.
Elias, returning to MotoGP with Honda LCR, trimmed a few tenths off his Tuesday time, but was over one-second behind Abraham and 2.7sec from Stoner.
Barring any special rookie tests for Crutchlow and Abraham, the next MotoGP track action will be at Sepang in February.

Valencia MotoGP test times - Wednesday 5pm (end) MotoGP lap times as of 5pm on Wednesday, at the end of the second and final day of testing at Valencia. The test marked the debut of Valentino Rossi with Ducati, Casey Stoner with a factory Honda, Cal Crutchlow with Tech 3 Yamaha etc.
The next official MotoGP test will be at Sepang in February.

Valentino Rossi finished season with ‘gritted teeth’ The Italian is looking forward to getting back to full strength in time for the next MotoGP test at Sepang. Valentino Rossi has spoken of his condition following the operation on his troublesome shoulder, the outgoing MotoGP world champion admitting he is 'in a lot of pain' but looking forward to getting back to 100 per cent.
Though his season was directly hampered by the leg injury he sustained at Mugello, one that put him out of competition for four races, it was the lingering effects of a shoulder complaint – caused in a motocross training accident – that proved a more persistent issue.
Seeing out the season with FIAT Yamaha, Rossi went under the knife this week to correct the damaged tendons and has been told to rest for the next 90 days.
Though the operation was considered a success, Rossi, in an interview with Italian television series Striscia la Notizia, concedes the damage to his shoulder was worse than originally believed.
“I'm not feeling great in the sense that I'm in a lot of pain, which the day after an operation is normal,” he said. “I'm struggling to sleep, but the operation all went to-plan and everything's okay. Right now I've got my arm in plaster, but my shoulder should return to 100 per cent, so it's just a question of time.
“My shoulder was a lot worse than we had been hoping it would be, unfortunately, which meant the operation took twice as long as it should have done. All the tendons and bits that we had thought were maybe only slightly damaged were completely broken, so they've given me a new shoulder now – I can't wait to try it out!”
Looking back on his season, Rossi says he struggled to finish the year, despite posting some good results, including a race win at Sepang.
“Aside from the problem I had with my leg, I had this shoulder injury too. I tried to stay strong all the way to the end of the season and I was even able to ride some good races, but it was hard and through slightly gritted teeth.”
Though the next MotoGP test in Malaysia is in less than 90 days, Rossi is determined to make it out for what will be a crucial second outing with new employers Ducati.
“Thank you to everyone as ever for the fanatical support, and on 1 February, for the first test of 2011, I hope to be on top form with Ducati.”

2011 has started for MZ It all starting to move again after a cool 2 months in australia i'm back in europe, and its cold ! after spending most of my time in Cairns far north QLD where the weather is a constant 30+ degrees it was a shock to come back to -2 degrees. since i have been hear iv meet some of the new team and seen the new trucks but i'm still waiting to see the new bikes but i wont have to wait to long as i'm testing on the 10th Feb. Ale my GF is in france working for FIVE GLOVES like a good girl ! one of us must do a real job. And yesterday i went playing with cars with Federico Sceriffo. He was driving his drift subaru testing a new big turbo and a NOS system and it must have worked well. Drifting one of the fastest corners at the Monza circuit in 5th gear! I was lucky to meet some people from a group called CIRCUIT COMPANY and they were nice or crazy because they let me drive there LOTUS 2-Eleven 260ps Was so much of fun to drive i had never driven a open roof car before but i liked it. Kind of gave you same free feeling that you have on a bike. after almost crashing the car on the 1st lap i quickly realized a car with a mid mounted engine has to be driven very different to car with a motor in the front. after finding its limits i soon had fun make it go faster and faster around Monza.
