Hi Guys and gals.
In the three years I've been a member or the Ducati Owners Club of WA, I haven't spoken to a policeman. Lost any points, or paid any fines while riding with the guys and girls of the club.
What I'm getting at, is that we aren't that bad, in regards to speeding.
We are not dangerous or reckless, so as to be hunted by the law for anything.
We're generally smart enough to use track days etc. to get our jollies.
Very few of the, many, rides that I've enjoyed with the DOCWA have had many serious casualties. Either physically or legally.
Maybe the odd Emu.
Of course there have been some nasty crashes by a couple of our members, but as far as I know, they have recovered. No-one has died on any rides I've been on, Thank Zeus. It does happen though.
That's motorcycling. I have a limp to prove it.
The point is, we aren't as fast as we think we are.
Ducati, bless 'em, make their speedometers read 10% over.
They say it's for your safety.
Your speedo reads 100kph, but you are really doing only 90kph. 10kph under what it shows.
I've tested my Multistrada speedo against a speedo app in my Galaxy phone and it was showing 10% over, at all speeds.
I also tested the app in other vehicles. To be sure it was right.
There is much written on the subject at Multistrada.net
Some people have even forked out over a $1,000.00 for a new speedo and ended up with the same thing.
I have a really good phone mount that anyone can borrow to test their speedo, if they want. Use your phone or mine.
It's best to do you're own test. There may be some differences.
I'm pretty sure the 10% over reading goes right across the Ducati range though.
I generally put the first number to the second place and read it read as zero in my head. For 60kph I'll ride at 66kph, 70-77, 88, 99, 110, etc.
So 120kph in a 110kph zone is a little under the speed limit.
So, most of the time, we aren't speeding.
I'm sure that some of our newer members, who have just bought their first Ducati and haven't been forewarned, will be more comfortable on club rides with this information.
Pass it on.
