Remove the seat and see if there is evidence of the VR overheating - such as burnt wires or melting of the plastic undertray. The Ducati ms forum has plenty of information on this problem. My VR on the Sport 1000 actually melted into the plastic undertray when it left me stranded down near Pemberton.

Thanks David, for the reply.I had a look all looking good re the regulator. I had an electrician mate have a look and followed a diagnostic tool supplied on ducati m.s we had the bike running and attached the voltmeter to the disconnected 3 yellow wires that run to the VR, nothing registered. We think it must be the stator, what do you think. I will have to take it the 800 k to Darwin for them to have a look. Does anyone know the cost of a new stator.

Where are you ? Kununurra ? Like most riders my knowledge of electrical problems is limited , but if I were in your shoes I would contact Anthony at Corse Motorcycles or Protwin and ask their advice. I would consider posting the stator to someone in Perth to have a look at and repair it if possible. Anthony or Protwin could probably advise where to send the stator and a suitable replacement it is unserviceable.

You were right David. Took it through to Darwin last Friday. Regulator, gonna take two weeks to get in. Give them a chance to do full service so all good. Thanks for the posts, bud

All fixed and back in the shed until I return from holiday in Australind. Bloody hell wish I had brought it down here. Oh well I will go on as the only ducati rider in kununurra until I move to somewhere where I can join a ride of ducati's. Merry Chrimbo all and happy new year.
